Likewise Names Engineering Executive

Will lead software development initiatives for mixed-network integration

Likewise announced today the addition of Robin Budd as vice president of engineering to manage development of the Likewise Platform, including the enterprise products Likewise Open and Likewise Enterprise, and the OEM products Likewise Identity Services and Likewise Storage Services.

Budd brings more than 15 years of software development experience, most recently as principal of Redpoint Consulting. Previously, she has served in leadership roles at Kiha Software (where she was co-founder), Vulcan Inc. and EMC. Her leadership will impact the interoperability products that Likewise currently maintains.

"Robin is uniquely qualified to head our engineering efforts with her background leading companies through high growth, and her focus on quality, process, and operations," said Barry Crist, CEO of Likewise. "Her leadership will help us to continue to drive our strong growth in the enterprise and technology licensing markets."

As one of the founding members of Kiha, Budd was instrumental in building the team and managed all aspects of Kiha's operations. As general manager of FlipStart at Vulcan Inc., Budd led all aspects of the development, manufacturing, sales and marketing of the FlipStart ultra-mobile computer.  Her prior experience includes three years as consulting design engineer at EMC, where she worked in the Advanced Technologies Group, and as liaison to Microsoft.

"Likewise provides the platform for mixed-network integration and makes us a prime innovator in the rapid transition to cloud-based virtualized storage and services," said Budd. "Managing authentication, security, and storage is becoming increasingly intertwined and Likewise will continue to deliver game-changing solutions to our customers."

Budd holds a degree in Physics from the University of Washington.  She holds six patents in the areas of storage systems and mail delivery to mobile devices, with 10 additional patents pending.

Likewise Open joins desktops and servers running Linux, Unix and Mac OS X to an organization's existing Active Directory. With more than 80,000 organizations worldwide, Likewise Open is the most widely-used Active Directory authentication engine for Linux, Unix and Mac OS X systems.  Likewise Enterprise builds on the authentication engine of Likewise Open, making it easy for IT managers to authenticate users, control access to applications and data, centrally manage settings with group policies and create reports for regulatory audits. Likewise Identity Services provides a next-generation authentication engine for Linux, Unix and Mac OS X.  Likewise Storage Services is a high-performance, Linux-based storage service running on commodity hardware that replaces current cross-platform Linux-based file servers, as well as Windows file servers and NAS devices.
